The Toronto Shadows Club

2011
Celebrating
our
10th Anniversary

The Toronto Shadows Club is your home away from home for all those who love the music and sound of the legendary band, The Shadows.

No need to play an instrument - if you can so much the better. The only qualification required is a love of "Shadows" music. Since our inception in 2001, many friendships have been formed through this common bond.

Our members - both performers and non-performers - primarily hail from Ontario's Golden Horseshoe region.

However, we have members who regularly travel considerable distances to join us: from Rochester in Western New York; Ottawa, in the east;  London, in the west; and Barrie in the North.

Anyone - from anywhere - is welcome to join us in celebrating the music of CLIFF and THE SHADOWS.

Club nights are held every six to eight weeks on a scheduled basis, with dates chosen to work into and around public holidays, peak traffic times, availability of key people etc.

Club dates are published in advance on the Events page on this website.  Please be sure to visit Stop Press News for the all latest information.

The TORONTO SHADOWS CLUB - established in 2001 - is the only club in Southern Ontario and
New York State dedicated to the music of CLIFF and THE SHADOWS - where guitarists, bassists, keyboard players and drummers can perform their music in front of a live audience.

Hank's Original Strat ....
... now owned by Bruce Welch

The story goes that Hank Marvin's Strat was ordered for him from the US by Cliff Richard after they'd looked at the Fender catalogue in the late 50s and assumed that the most expensive guitar in the range at that time would be the one they'd heard James Burton playing on Ricky Nelson records. The Fiesta Red Strat duly arrived (S/N: 34346 - shown above) and changed the face of electric guitar playing in the UK. Only later did Cliff and the Shadows discover that Burton played a Telecaster! So the Shadows' trademark sound may have come about partly by accident. Other sources say Hank wanted a Strat because Buddy Holly played one – actually in Sunburst, but at least Hank had the right horn-rimmed glasses.
